The 2024 Hurricane Season has officially started and after the prediction for an active season, many along the Gulf Coast are on edge.

So many people along the southern coast are still recovering from previous storms so anytime a disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico is highlighted or mentioned, some experience high anxiety levels and that's understandable.

Well, The National Hurricane Center has announced its first outlook of the 2024 Hurricane Season because there is an area of disturbed weather in the southeastern portion of the gulf.

For those in Louisiana, this will not impact our weather and we should not have anything to worry about.

The disturbance is forecasted to move northward, bringing plenty of rainfall to the Florida peninsula.

According to the social media post by NOAA NWS National Hurricane Center, "It has a near zero chance of formation in the next 48 hours and a low (20 percent) chance in the next 7 days."

We share this bit of information with you for a few reasons, be mindful that it is Hurricane Season and you should have plans made already in the event of your area being impacted this season.

Also, as local meteorologists have stressed recently, do not take every model you see on social media too seriously. Many social media pages post every possible scenario days out and often that information relayed to you is inaccurate at the time.

Lastly, we want you to know that this first disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico will not impact Southern Louisiana and that those in Florida will be most affected by the rainfall it brings.
