We've heard so much terrible news about professional athletes lately. I had to write this. Derek Jeter is in the final days of a 20 year major league baseball career that will make him a unanimous Hall of Fame selection. He's played his entire career with one team, the New York Yankees, despite offers to play elsewhere for a bigger salary.

10 years ago, Jeter, and the Yankees were negotiating a long term contract, and it was dragging on. The sticking point wasn't money. He wanted a no-trade clause. The Yankees don't customarily do that. An exception was ultimately made. Jeter is the Yankees' all time leader in games played, base hits, and top 5 in multiple other categories. He's a 5 time World Series Champion, and 14 time All Star. There's never been a hint of scandal. No banned substances. No abuse of women or children. No brushes with the law. His final home at bat was like something from a movie script.
