Thursday was not a typical day in Crowley. Sure, that community like many others has its issues with ne'er do wells and crime but yesterday things escalated quite a bit. After all, it's not every day that a police chase ends with an officer discharging his weapon at a suspect who's fleeing police at a high rate of speed.

According to KATC Television, the incident began when Deputies from the Acadia Parish Sheriff's Department and the U.S. Marshal's office located and attempted to apprehend a suspect who was wanted on warrants. The officers engaged the suspect near the Walmart on Oddfellows Road, that's when the chase began.

According to reports as the suspect vehicle was being pursued, officers from the Crowley Police Department joined in to assist. Crowley PD officers fired at the vehicle after the driver drove the vehicle directly toward them as the vehicle made a sweeping turn onto Sixth Street.

The suspect vehicle clipped a utility pole flipping the vehicle. The crash ejected a female passenger in the suspect vehicle and the driver was apprehended as he attempted to flee the scene on foot. The identity of the driver and the passenger have not been released at this time.  The ejected passenger was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Her condition is not known at this time.

The Acadia Parish Sheriff's Department is currently leading the investigation into the incident. We can expect further information on the case from Sheriff K.P. Gibson perhaps, later today.
