A project that engineers hope will create more marsh will force the closure of some parts of the Sabine National Wildlife Refuge next week. The planned closings are for the parking lots and boat launches near the Hog Island Gully Recreation Area.

That area will serve as a staging center for vehicles and equipment being used to disperse dredge material from the Calcasieu Ship Channel. The hope is that this material will help create and restore marshland in the refuge.

The closures prompted by these projects are planned for June 12th through August 31. If you have question or concerns you may direct those to Sabine National Wildlife Refuge main office at Cameron Prairie. That office can be reached by dialing 337-598-2216.
