Church Point Mardi Gras Run for 2021 Is Now Cancelled
More bad news surrounding Mardi Gras in 2021.
It has been announced that the annual Church Point Mardi Gras run will be cancelled in 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
This year would have been the 60th year of the annual tradition, but because of the pandemic, officials have decided to cancel the run.
I reached out to the Church Point Mardi Gras Facebook page and here's the statement that they sent me.
"After very much thought and consideration, the Saddle Tramp Riders Club has decided to cancel this year’s Church Point Courir de Mardi Gras. This decision was discussed with Mayor Ryan (Spanky) Meche, Chief Dale Thibodeaux, and other officials, and did not come easy, as 2021 would have been the 60th year of our beloved Cajun Mardi Gras tradition. We know how many people enjoy our traditional run and parade, but our primary focus is on keeping everyone safe during this pandemic. The health and well-being of our citizens, runners, riders, volunteers, parade-goers, and public officials is of utmost importance. We invite you to still celebrate the Mardi Gras season by decorating your homes and businesses and encourage you to also support our local businesses by purchasing memorabilia and king cakes. Despite the difficult decision of cancelling this year’s celebration, the Saddle Tramp Riders Club remains focused on preserving our Cajun Culture one Mardi Gras at a time. Please join us on February 27, 2022 to help us make it the best Church Point Courir de Mardi Gras ever! Sincerely, Saddle Tramp Riders Club"
We look forward to seeing everyone enjoy themselves again in Church Point for the 2022 Mardi Gras festivities.
Keep in mind, they do still want you to keep the Mardi Gras excitement going by decorating your home or business in Church Point.
