Christopher Maloney was told not to audition on the X-Factor, he would only embarrass himself.  Yeah right.  This is exactly why when someone tells you, you can't... you should anyway!

Let this be a reminder to you to never let anyone keep you down stripping you of your self-esteem.  Especially when your heart is telling you otherwise.  Maloney, 34 at the time, was told he couldn't sing and that he should never try out.  Plus, he had never performed in front of thousands in an audience, much less on television.

You can see how nervous he is as he started singing Bette Midler's 'The Rose'.

Watch Christopher Maloney sing 'The Rose' by Bette Midler and has many in the audience in tears.

Maloney suffered with nerves throughout the competition and only made it to the live performances as a wild card.  He also had controversial moments with some of the contestants and executives on the show, but none of that takes away from his story.

Never let someone convince you that you can't do something.  You can do anything you put your mind to.  This is proof that the human drive is alive and strong.  And human beings can overcome.
