Have you been following the music/band situation at Cecilia Jr. High School?  Many parents just can't believe what's happened.  The school has downsized the music/band program to just 25.  Over 85 students have signed up. While some schools near the Cecilia area have two band directors, Cecilia Jr. High School has decided to turn away interested students and labeling the program as just an elective.  I have heard from many parents in the area who are really upset, especially since the principal and school board don't seem to be listening to them.

I'd like to remind these officials that playing an instrument has been proven to motivate children, teach them responsibility through practicing, wires their brains to better understand Math and in many cases keeps children out of trouble and off the streets.

One of this areas biggest exports is our music.  It is a part of our soul, our being and our heritage.  Please don't take it away.

Here's what a few KTDY facebook fans had to say:

  • Annette Bourque Frederick "Helloooo, check out the TOPS scholarship requirements. Band can be applied toward the Fine Arts requirements."
  • Kandi Miller "We have a petition curculating: we need u. We need signatures."
