61-year-old Joseph Marshall Landry of Breaux Bridge was arrested Thursday afternoon after St. Martin Parish Sheriff's deputies say they found several stolen pieces of heavy equipment on his two properties.

Investigators say they found a Gravely 42-inch zero turn lawn mower worth about $2,000 at his Camp Bon Temps residence in Breaux Bridge that was reportedly stolen from a St. Landry home, as well as a utility trailer worth $1500 that was reportedly stolen from Acadia Parish. In addition, deputies say they recovered a Caterpillar Excavator, Caterpillar Bulldozer, and a Caterpillar Mini Bulldozer reported stolen from Texas with a combined value of about $309,000.

The man also known as "Candyman" has been booked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center on the following charges:

  • La. R.S. 14:69B(1)-Illegal Possession of Stolen Things, over $25,000.00-3 counts
  • La. R.S. 14:69B (3)-Illegal Possession of Stolen Things, over $1,000.00-2 counts

His bond has been set at $8,000 as the investigation continues.
