Update at 1:37 - The suspect in the shooting has been arrested. You can find details on the latest development here


UPDATE:

Shreveport police have identified the suspect in the hospital shooting as 41-year-old Taniel Cole. Officers continue to hold a perimeter around the Ocshner LSU Health St. Mary hospital after this morning's incident.

We do know the suspect came into the hospital at about 5:30 this morning armed with a gun and started shooting. One man was shot in the leg. Cole is 5′4″ and very slim. He is from the Farmerville area.

Police continue to search the hospital for the suspect. .

Sgt. Angie Wilhite says “The suspect made threats to kill any law enforcement officer or any others who tried to stop him today.”


Ochsner LSU Health St. Mary issued the following statement regarding this morning's incident at 11:02 am:

Today was difficult for the staff, patients and visitors at Ochsner LSU Health St. Mary Medical Center as we responded to a shooting this morning. We immediately followed our emergency and safety protocols, which included locking down the facility. One person was injured with a non-life-threatening condition. We received confirmation from the Shreveport Police Department that the perpetrator is no longer on our campus and out of the area. There is currently no danger to the staff and the hospital is resuming normal operations.

The safety and well-being of our employees, patients and visitors are our first priority. We take security very seriously and are vigilant about keeping our campus, employees, patients and visitors safe. We would like to thank our employees who acted swiftly in a challenging and stressful situation.  We are providing dedicated crisis intervention, pastoral care and licensed social workers to support our staff at this time.

We are unable to comment further as we are working with the proper authorities during this investigation and giving them our complete cooperation.


 

ORIGINAL STORY:

Several Shreveport police units are on the scene at Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport - St. Mary Medical Center. Officers were called to the Highland neighborhood facility just after 5:30 this morning. in Shreveport.

One person has reportedly been wounded. But no other details are available. Officers are trying to talk to a suspect who is apparently still on the 4th floor of the facility.

KSLA reports a source at the hospital describes this as an active shooter situation.

Police have formed a perimeter around the area.

KEEL News has learned Loyola College Prep and St. Johns classes has been cancelled for today because of this active shooter situation.

Loyola College Prep students use the Schumpert complex for parking.
