Today is National Black Cat Appreciation Day, and these beautiful animals need all the appreciation they can get.

Of the 3 to 4 million cats that enter animal shelters each year, nearly 71 percent of them are euthanized. The majority of these cats are black cats, according to 2016 research 18on pet adoption trends. Other research has shown that people looking to adopt a cat prefer cats with patterns or all - white cats to mostly or all - black cats.

The sad truth is that scientists have found a correlation between a cat's color and its personality, and it turns out that black cats are some of the most playful and friendly of all cats.

If you've been looking to adopt a cat, consider adopting a black cat. Because they are so often ignored, you'll have no trouble finding a black cat looking for a forever home just like any other cat. I don't know a lot about cats, but my adopted stray black dog was the best little critter ever!
