Brian Pope, the former Lafayette City Marshal in jail on malfeasance in office charges, was due to appear in the 15th Judicial District Court for a hearing on Thursday. But, that has now been postponed because of an appeal to the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals in Lake Charles, according to our news partners at KATC.

Pope's hearing regarded charges stemming from two incidents accusing him of keeping money intended for his office's use for himself.

Pope, who has already lost an appeal to the Louisiana Supreme Court on his 2018 conviction, reported to jail in November 2020 for his one year sentence but was transferred out of Lafayette to LaSalle Correctional Center "for his own safety and well being" by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office.

KATC reports Pope's next hearings have been rescheduled for May 13 and May 17.
