Acadiana Deputy Dies In A House Fire

Deputies with the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office are mourning the loss of a Lieutenant from their department.

Sheriff Louis Ackal says that Lieutenant Paul Lancon died in a fire at his home in Erath yesterday.

Ackal says that one of his deputies who was at the home had to be taken to a hospital. That man received first degree burns due to this fire, and he was also suffering from smoke inhalation.

Trying to determine all the circumstances surrounding the fire will be the job of the State Fire Marshall's Office.

The deputy who was injured was found outside of the trailer home yesterday, and the Lieutenant's body was found inside of his home.

Lancon had been working with the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office since 2015.

The man's family is currently in the process of arranging the plans for his funeral.
