During the holiday season, most of us are thinking about getting together with family and friends and being thankful, while the ne'er-do-goods are thinking about how they can capitalize on you having your guard down.

The Better Business Bureau put together a list of 10 known holiday scams of which you need to be aware, from the "Grandchild Needs Money" scheme to the fake "Your Order Has Shipped" email.

Some simple tips to avoid getting scammed this holiday season:

  • Verify all sources, stories, goods and/or services before sending money to anyone, anywhere.
