There are perhaps no more stirring words than those of General Douglas MacArthur on the occasion of Japan signing of the Instrument of Surrender on the deck of the USS Missouri, which marked the end of World War II.

'We have known the bitterness of defeat, and the exultation of triumph, and from both, we have learned that there can be no turning back.'

There can be no turning back once we've been involved in war; the cost is too great to forget, to monumental to ignore. We remember those men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom in every war our country has been involved in, and not only them, but their families and friends who also sacrificed so much. We also remember and honor those who continue to serve that we might enjoy the freedom we so often fail to fully understand and take for granted.

We here at KTDY hope your Memorial Day is filled with celebration and remembrance of our responsibility to preserve in peace what so many died to win for us in war.
