Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun softball team is being projected as a #2-seed for the upcoming NCAA Regionals.

Louisiana, who is currently 39-6, overall, has won 7-straight, including 22 of their last 23, and 29 of their last 31, are being projected as the #2-seed in the Lexington, Kentucky Regional by College Sports Madness.

Okay, officially, there are no 2-4 seeds in the NCAA Regionals. The NCAA only recognizes the top seed. But we can all easily figure it out.

The Cajuns, who won the 2017 regular season Sun Belt Conference title, their 4th-straight, and 15th in the 17-year history of softball in the league, are all but guaranteed to make their 19th-consecutive NCAA Regional appearance, including their 27th in the last 28 years.

The only year since 1990 in which Louisiana failed to appear in a regional was 1998.

If the Cajuns are indeed a #2-seed, it would end a streak of three-straight years in which they were the top seed in a regional, and hosted at Lamson Park.

Louisiana has had a lot of success in postseason play, advancing to Super Regional play the last five years.

These are projections, and nothing more, but the Cajuns are projected as the second-seed in the Lexington Regional, along with the top-seeded Kentucky Wildcats, the McNeese Cowgirls, and the Fordham Rams.

The Cajuns, who close out their 2017 regular season schedule this weekend, when they travel to Monroe to face the ULM Warhawks, before playing in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, are still hoping that they can host a regional this year, and they're probably one of the bubble teams in that department right now.

The site projects Florida as the top National Seed, followed by Florida St., Arizona, Auburn, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Washington, and Texas A&M in the top 8.

The top 8 is big, as they would be National Seeds, meaning that they would host in both the NCAA Regionals and NCAA Super Regionals, as long as they keep winning.

Oregon, Tennessee, Utah, UCLA, James Madison, Alabama, Kentucky, and Baylor are projected to be seeded in spots 9-16, and as NCAA Regional host teams.

LSU, who some have speculated as a possible #1-seed and host school, is projected as a #2-seed in the Tallahassee, Florida Regional, hosted by Florida St., while Texas St. is the only other Sun Belt Conference school besides Louisiana projected in the field of 64.

The site projects that for Louisiana to make it to the Women's College World Series, to have to win the Lexington Regional, and then follow that up with a win in the Super Regionals over whichever team advances out of the Tallahassee Regional.

Again, the projections are just for fun, and should not be taken too seriously. After all, conference tournaments still have to be decided. These are a guess, and nothing more. But the site did a nice job of coming up with a realistic bracket.
