Forecast models are in pretty strict agreement that South Louisiana will experience periods of rain with some thunder and lightning and maybe even some gusty winds late Friday into early Saturday morning. The Storm Prediction Center has placed a large portion of southwest Louisiana in the marginal risk zone for severe storms during that time period.

Still, the bottom line for most of us when it comes to rain and storms is simply this, "when is it going start and when is it supposed to be done". Well, I wish we had the technology to be that exacting in our forecast for you but we don't. What we can offer is some pretty accurate time ranges for when the worst of the weather will be moving through.

Based on model guidance and because KATC's Rob Perillo is simply the best when it comes to weather in Acadiana. We can say the most likely time for Acadiana to be affected by showers and storms associated with an approaching frontal system will be between 6 pm on Friday evening and Midnight.

The unfortunate fact about that forecast is that it will place a lot of high school football playoff games under the gun for inclement weather. Naturally the further to the north and west a team plays the earlier in the evening the location will likely be affected by storms.

Teams playing in Baton Rouge or points east will likely not be affected by the stronger showers and storms associated with the front. Now, we can't rule out a passing shower or two ahead of the frontal system making your bleacher seat wet but most of the heavier rain should be confined to the hours after the games are over.

The forecast for Saturday and Sunday is calling for cloudy skies but cooler conditions. Fans heading out for Ragin Cajun football at Cajun Field or the LSU versus Arkansas game in Baton Rouge will want at least a light jacket to fend off the chill of temperatures that will be falling into the 50s during those contests.
