A Louisiana nutria rat captured the hearts of thousands earlier this week but now the family of the motherless rodent is wiping away tears over their beloved pet being taken away.

The zoo made the announcement Thursday on its Facebook page and website.

Last month we brought you the story about the Baton Rouge Zoo wanting the public's input in helping name their new baby giraffe. The nomination process is over and the top three names have been revealed.

The Baton Rouge Zoo is asking for the public's help in naming one of their new residents, a male reticulated giraffe who was born the day after Christmas.
