(New Iberia, Louisiana) - A photo circulating on social media from Iberia Parish has captured the eyes and hearts of many in Acadiana.

The social media page titled "Stories For The Soul" shared a photo of a young man who reportedly works at the Super 1 Foods in New Iberia assisting someone in a car..

According to the viral social media post, the young man was collecting shopping carts in the parking lot when he noticed an elderly woman struggling to get in her car while at the store.

She had an oxygen bottle with her, and as soon as the young man saw the woman struggling, he stopped what he was doing and ran across the parking lot to assist her.

The Facebook group reports that Katie Joy DeRouen captured the moment on camera, and now we know the young man's name.

He is Desmond Connor, and in an update shared by Stories For The Soul, Desmond was awarded a gift card by the store's manager for his generosity.

We all applaud Desmond for caring about the elderly person he saw in the parking lot, and I am also applauding Katie for capturing and sharing this good news story.

Too often, we are critical of teens and the younger generation, so when they do something like Desmond did here, we should applaud and highlight their actions. This young man doesn't know it now, but he will be awarded more than just a gift card if he continues to care for others as he did here.
