Ryan Seacrest Joins NBC for Olympics Coverage
There is no stopping Ryan Seacrest‘s takeover of media and popular culture. The ‘American Idol‘ host announced on the ‘Today‘ show that he’ll be joining NBC’s prime time coverage of the 2012 London Summer Olympic Games.
Seacrest sat down with Matt Lauer and revealed his deal with NBC and the E! network. Covering the Olympics, which begin on July 27, will be his first assignment. “It’s been something that I’ve been very much looking forward to, and I’ll be doing a lot of fun things at NBC,” he said.
Lauer grilled Seacrest about his continuing presence on ‘Idol,’ which has been in question after 11 seasons. “I plan to stay there,” Seacrest said. “I think I’ll have an official announcement very, very soon. But I expect to be on that show. It’s a great, great program. It’s a circus to run and I enjoy it.”
The two also engaged in some friendly conversation about the rumors that Seacrest will be replacing Lauer on ‘Today.’ Seacrest evaded questions about whether he has had discussions with the network about the idea, but he said Lauer is the best when it comes to morning TV talk. “I see you doing this for as long as you want to,” he told Lauer.
