(Lafayette, Louisiana) - Summer is rapidly approaching for all of us in South Louisiana, and the heat is returning this week.

We had a cold winter, and some spring days have been cool and below average temperatures, but changes are coming.

If you're a "summer person," you'll love the news we have to share here. Temperatures towards the end of the week will soon be reaching and perhaps surpassing the 900-degree mark.

That means the summer heat is arriving, and it probably won't be leaving the region for the next five months.

So, if you haven't yet done this, it may be time to clean the patio and do any strenuous work outside before the heat bears down on all of us for the summer. I've often said that once the summer heat arrives, it sticks around with no breaks until later October.

Remember, with temperatures reaching the 90-degree mark, heat exhaustion is possible, so make sure you and the pets are staying hydrated. And while we're speaking of pets, if you have pets outdoors, this would be a great week to make sure that they have plenty of shade for the summer.

When Does Summer Start?

For those who despise summer in Louisiana, we hope you enjoyed winter and spring because big changes are coming.

Summer officially arrives on June 20th, but it feels like summer here way before that date.
