When I get up in the morning, I don't check my e-mail 'til I've been up for about an hour and had at least 2 cups of coffee. I don't like big surprises first thing in the morning. Sunday, I got up, poured myself a cup & logged onto Facebook. The first thing to appear, a status update from ESPN, announcing the passing of longtime anchor Stuart Scott. It wasn't a big surprise because I was well aware of his battle with cancer. Some tears welled up, though. He'd been with the network since 1993. Sometimes I found his "catch phrases" annoying, but he had the the hutzpah to be himself in an era where media is dominated by corporate entities that want talent to be homogeneous. Stuart interviewed some of the biggest names in sports, as well as 2 presidents. His speech at the ESPY's was compelling, to say the least. May he rest in peace.
