Investigators are still trying to determine why a Lafayette woman tried to set a grandmother's car on fire Sunday morning.

Lafayette Fire Department Spokesman Alton Trahan said 38-year-old Rosanna Prejean was arrested Monday for attempted aggravated arson.

The incident occurred near a residence on Lafayette's 11th Street at approximately 6:30 a.m. Sunday.

Fire fighters responded to a call regarding a woman who was pouring what was believed to be gasoline around a vehicle.

The victim was preparing to leave the home when she noticed the suspect pouring the gasoline around the car. The victim then removed her two grandchildren from the car.

Prejean then allegedly attempted to ignite the gasoline before fleeing the scene, but was unsuccessful.

There were no injuries reported.

The motive for the incident is still under investigation.

If anyone has any information regarding this crime, they are urged to contact the Lafayette Fire Department at 291-8716.
