UPDATE: Lafayette Drive-Thru Locations For Screening, Not Testing

UPDATE: Lafayette Consolidated Government Communication Director Jamie Angelle says the drive-thru sites announced on Monday will be for screenings, not COVID-19 testing. Angelle appeared on Acadiana's Morning News on KPEL. Medical professionals will be taking temperatures and doing a checklist of other symptoms. They will also work to rule out the flu or other illnesses.

On Monday's The Ross Report, Lafayette Mayor-President Josh Guillory provided more details on his office's handling of the coronavirus in Lafayette and the Parish.

Guillory announced drive-thru testing of the coronavirus will start on Wednesday at the Cajundome.

He also announced his support of Gov. Edwards Emergency Proclamation. He mentioned that his administration is working on lifting "the bureaucratic red tape locally" so that restaurants can deliver 24 hours, if they choose to do so.

Guillory announced a curfew for unaccompanied minors (NOT ADULTS) from 8 PM to 6 AM throughout the parish. Gyms and Health clubs will be closed as well.

He says decisions are being made for 14 day periods "to make the impact as minimal as it can be."

“Limiting businesses is not taken lightly, but aggressive steps are important and necessary as government responds to this public health emergency. I’d like to assure the people of Lafayette Parish that we would not be taking these serious precautionary measures unless we felt that they were absolutely necessary to protect our community from COVID-19. With a virus of this caliber, decisions need to be made quickly to ensure the safety of the public.” stated Mayor-President Josh Guillory

There are currently no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Lafayette Parish. This is expected to change within the coming days.

He encouraged people to use Uber as he and Carol joked about people wanting to have a drink in the middle of this coronavirus situation.

On a serious note, Guillory said gas stations and grocery stores are not closed.
