Justin Bieber Apologizes for ‘Offending’ With Controversial Pregnancy Prank
Justin Bieber has apologized after making an insensitive pregnancy joke on April Fool's Day.
In case you missed it, the 25-year-old pop star sent the internet into a frenzy on Monday (April 1) after he shared a baby ultrasound on his Instagram account. At first, fans were skeptical but when he followed the post up with a series of photos that saw his wife Hailey Baldwin touching her stomach in what appeared to be a doctor's office, people really believed the couple was expecting their first child together.
Bieber later confirmed the pregnancy announcement was fake, however, he was met with tons of backlash—especially from fans who felt like he was being insensitive to people with fertility issues. The singer has since apologized to those he may have offended, writing that he "truly [doesn't] want anyone to be hurt by a prank."
"There’s always gonna be people offended, there’s also people who don’t take jokes very well, I am a prankster and it was APRIL FOOLS," he wrote on Instagram. "I didn’t at all mean to be insensitive to people who can’t have children. A lot of people I know, their first go to prank on April fools is telling their parents they are pregnant to get a big reaction. But I will apologize anyway and take responsibility and say sorry to people who were offended."
He continued, "I truly don’t want anyone to be hurt by a prank...it’s like when I shoved cake in my little sisters face for her birthday expecting her to laugh but she cried. You sometimes just don’t know what will hurt someone’s feelings not to compare pregnancy with cake in the face but it’s just to paint the picture of not knowing what will offend."
