A local pizza spot in Metairie just got a major spotlight, thanks to Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy. Known for his popular "One Bite" pizza reviews (one bite, everybody knows the rules), Portnoy stopped by Gio’s Pizza & Spaghetti upon his arrival in New Orleans for Super Bowl week—and the results were better than the Barstool head honcho expected.

Gio’s, a family-run restaurant that has been slicing up pizza and serving Italian dishes for 40 years, welcomed Portnoy without even knowing who he was.

As the staff showed him photos of their family on the walls, Portnoy—who often approaches non-New York or New Jersey pizza with skepticism—seemed almost convinced he wouldn’t find anything remarkable but was willing to try the pie.

But Gio’s proved him wrong.

Portnoy ended up giving the pizza a 7.6 out of 10, a solid score on his tough rating scale, which is the same system he uses for top-tier pizza joints in New York and New Jersey. On the One Bite app, Gio’s was already rated at 7.7, showing consistency if anything.

For a local business, a Barstool Pizza Review can be a game-changer, bringing national attention to a spot that locals have loved for decades. With the Barstool crew in town for the Super Bowl, this could be the first of many Louisiana pizza joints and local businesses to get a review.

Whether you’re a local or visiting, make it a point to stop by Gio’s and try the pizza for yourself and say you were a part of Barstool Pizza Review history.
