A woman in Lake Charles has been arrested and booked with murder after a 3-month-old infant died.

KATC TV 3 reports that Shirley Sawyer, 40, was arrested by the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's deputies and booked with first-degree murder.

On January 22, deputies were called to a hospital after the infant was brought in unresponsive. The baby reportedly had a brain bleed, along with several skull fractures.

The infant's mother says that she left her baby with Sawyer for three hours, and when she returned to get her child she thought the baby was asleep, but she later discovered that the baby was limp.

The mother rushed her baby to the hospital, and that is when the examinations were performed.

On February 3, after an investigation into the infant's death, an arrest warrant was issued for Shirley Sawyer, and that's when the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's deputies located and arrested her.

Bond was set for $2.5 million and Sawyer is being held in the Calcasieu Correctional Center. Sawyer is presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.

This investigation is ongoing, and we will continue to follow this story out of southwest Louisiana
