Major Vehicle Fire on I-10 Closes Interstate Between Rayne, Crowley
CROWLEY, La. (KPEL News) - A vehicle fire has forced a closure of I-10 in between Rayne and Crowley, according to multiple reports.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. However, congestion appears to be backing up from the Crowley area toward Rayne at this time, and there is no indication as to when it may clear.
The backup is starting to be reported by travel apps like Google Maps, and drive times are extending along the route. According to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, congestion had reached 3 miles in length as of 5:17 p.m.
"I-10 East and I-10 West are closed at LA 35/ LA 98 (The Boulevard) due to a vehicle fire," the agency said in a statement. "Congestion has reached 3 miles. Motorists are advised to use an alternate route."
KPEL News received photos from the scene, which appeared to show a passenger bus completely engulfed in flames.
