Shoppers in Lafayette, Louisiana got their first in-town taste of what it's like to shop at an ALDI store about a year or so ago. Since the Lafayette store opened the German family-owned multinational supermarket chain has opened six other Louisiana locations.

The Lafayette area has two locations, New Iberia has one as do Covington, Slidell, Metairie, and LaPlace. People who have shopped at the Lafayette locations of the grocery chain usually have very positive responses about the experience. Although, there has been one question raised.

That question doesn't have to do with selection, freshness, products, or even store hours. The question that we have been hearing has to do with customers making bird noises in the store. Yeah, apparently it's a "thing" to make a "crow" noise, you know, like a Caw Caw,  while you shop so other "shoppers" can identify you as a member of a special online Facebook Group.

The unexpected bird calls in Aldi are the brainchild of the Facebook Group, Aisle of Shame. The group fancies itself as a group for:

ALDI fans who enjoy sharing their favorite ALDI finds, recipes, and product experience, and want to connect with other ALDI lovers from around the USA.

Okay, we get it. It's a fan club for a grocery store but that doesn't explain the bird noises that you can hear when you shop. Here's the skinny on that story.

Back in 2020 one of the group's members decided it would be fun to identify other members of the group while shopping, but they needed a secret code. Since crows identify others by their "caw" the group decided that a crow caw would be the method of letting others in the group know they were among friends.

So, no there is nothing evil about the bird sounds and not the shoppers at ALDI aren't crazy, they're just making the most of their shopping journey which sometimes can feel like it's all for the birds anyway.
