Most Crashable in Acadiana – 10 Lafayette Intersections With the Most Crashes

(KMDL-FM) If you ask people to discuss something they don't like about Lafayette and Acadiana, most of us would be hard-pressed to name anything, but if we have to name something, then traffic would probably be the biggest negative about calling South Louisiana home.

The trouble with traffic is that it steals time. Despite the fact that we see so many people on their phones while driving, I don't think they are getting work done. I think they are contributing to the numbers that we have represented on our list.

How Did We Determine Which Lafayette Intersections Have the Most Crashes?

What we did was look back through traffic records for the past couple of decades. Some roads weren't around 20 years ago; some were. Where possible, we attempted to match the data so we would be comparing "apples to apples".

For each intersection listed, there is a number. That number represents the average annual number of crashes at that intersection. We did not make a distinction between fender benders, fatal crashes, or multiple vehicle crashes; we only used "crash" as the defining term for our project.

Two Lafayette Roads Are on the List A Lot - We Did Not Include the Interstates

We chose to leave the Interstate roadways off of our list because we wanted to focus on getting around town in town. I am sure if we looked at crash stats for I-10, most of us would cower and cringe when we saw the figures for crashes on the Basin Bridge.

As you might expect, two big roads in Lafayette were listed the most often, but there were a few outliers that only those who have to drive that path every day understand the struggle.
