LAFAYETTE, La. - Earlier this week we got the news that the vertical building permit has officially been issued for the Lafayette, Louisiana Buc-ee's location at 3400 Louisiana Ave. Now that the Buc-ee's ball is officially rolling, it looks like they'll be opening in early 2028.

If you've never been to a Buc-ee's before, you're probably going to have a few surprises waiting for you.

Sure, you've probably heard about the enormous stores, the ridiculously clean bathrooms, Beaver Nuggets, the brisket, and the seemingly never ending sea of gas pumps, but there are also some Buc-ee's rules and policies that many first-time visitors don't know about.

And with a new Buc-ee's coming to Lafayette, now is probably a good time to find out what you can and can't do when you pull into Buc-ee's

Don't Plan On Leaving Your Car There For Hours

That enormous Buc-ee's parking lot might look like the perfect place to park for a while.

According to Buc-ee's, however, customers aren't supposed to leave vehicles parked on the property for extended periods of time. This policy is intended to help maintain a safe environment for customers.

Your Dog Can't Just Come Inside

Buc-ee's doesn't allow ordinary pets inside its stores.

Because Buc-ee's sells and prepares food, health regulations restrict animals inside the building. Service animals are an exception, as are animals working with law enforcement.

So if you're traveling with your dog, you'll need to make arrangements before heading inside.

And no, simply calling your dog a "service animal" doesn't make it one.

Buc-ee's Is Not A Truck Stop

You might assume a place with hundreds of gas pumps would be designed for truckers and 18-wheelers, but Buc-ee's is not a truck stop.

Buc-ee's welcomes buses and motor homes, but tractor-trailers aren't allowed.

Buc-ee's Doesn't Sell Propane

This may seem like a strange thing for a gigantic travel center not to carry, but Buc-ee's does not sell propane.

If you need propane for your grill, camper or other equipment, you'll want to get it somewhere else.

You Can't Call The Store

Now, we can't be 100% positive yet if you'll be able to call the Lafayette Buc-ee's when it opens, but typically Buc-ee's stores don't have public phone numbers.

The company says it previously had store phones answered by cashiers, but the system created problems when employees were pulled away from helping customers to answer calls.

Even taking a look at their contact page on their website, there's no phone numbers listed.

Your Gas Pump May Put A Big Hold On Your Credit Or Debit Card

When you pay at the pump, you may notice a surprisingly large pending authorization on your card.

Buc-ee's says its fuel pumps can place authorization holds ranging from $75 to more than $200, depending on the type of card being used. It's an authorization hold, and Buc-ee's says it can remain in place for up to 72 hours depending on the card issuer.
