How much difference does extra reading practice make for first- and second-grade students who struggle to read? A lot! Nearly 80 percent of students paired with a United Way Reader improved their overall reading scores. Being part of that impact is easy. Simply sign up to become a United Way Reader and attend a training. Volunteers then work with students they’re paired with for one hour per week for a minimum of 10 weeks. If you're sick when you hear about the troubles in our schools, dedicate just 10 hours and make a real difference. Ten total hours of your time- one hour a week for ten weeks can help a child succeed in school, and in life!

The next training will be held at 2 p.m. Feb 21, 2013, at The Early Learning Center, 1004 S. Martin Luther King Drive, St. Martinville.
More than 250 students have been helped by 167 United Way Readers. Become part of their story by volunteering today!
