Forecast For First Day of Fall in South Louisiana
(Lafayette, Louisiana) - The first day of Fall is rapidly approaching, but it may not really feel llike Fall on Tuesday, September 22, when Fall officially arrives.
This Summer has been brutal in Acadiana, with many days near the 100-degree mark and heat advisories issued for several days throughout.
That said, many are anxiously awaiting Fall so we can have much cooler mornings and evenings. Even some of my friends who love summer have admitted they are done with the extreme temperatures and are ready for Fall-like temperatures, too.
Sadly, just because Fall is here in Louisiana doesn't guarantee we will have cooler temperatures to kick off "Spooky Season." Temperatures in Louisiana range in the mid-to-lower 90s in September, and often that first strong cool front doesn't arrive until mid-to-late October.
First Day of Fall 2026
Knowing that Fall starts on September 22, 2026, I checked the extended forecast on Acadiana New First to see if it will actually "feel" like Fall, and I was disappointed by what's to come on the first day of the new season.
According to Daniel Phillips' forecast, Acadiana's high on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, will be 94 degrees. The low on the first evening of Fall will only be 75 degrees. That likely means mosquitoes will stick around with you and me for the first several days or weeks of Fall in South Louisiana.
So, if you want to get into the Fall spirit, do as I have done at my house and start putting your Fall decor out, but don't plan to take out the jackets or sweaters just yet. We are likely several weeks away from a strong cool front that will actually make it feel like Fall.

Still, that hasn't stopped my family and me from burning candles in the house to at least make it smell like Fall. Until then, keep the AC low and let's just pretend like Fall is really here next week, when it really isn't.
Here's a look at the extended forecast for Acadiana as we do approach the first day and week of Fall. #Gross
