Does Cough Syrup Really Work?

It seems like almost everyone in Lafayette has had a cold or the flu since the holidays. Most of us rush to the drug store for a remedy of some sort, often trying to relieve the coughing so we can get some rest or get through the work day. If you are reaching for an over-the-counter cough syrup, you might want to think again. The American Chemical Society says it doesn't work to soothe your cough, and that other remedies, like plenty of fluids, a humidifier or lozenges may help more.
