It’s that time of year again when the leaves start to fall and the pom-poms start to shake. The D.R.E.A.M.S. Foundation of Acadiana is looking for new members to join its cheer squad. The foundation is now recruiting members of the community with special needs to take part.

The DREAMS cheerleading program begins this fall and goes into spring 2021. It will give those with special needs a chance to be involved with activities in the community and learn how to interact with a team. There is no age limit and that applicants can be male or female. There is a one-time $100 uniform fee. Meetings will be held virtually every Friday at 5:15 pm via Zoom.

According to KATC, Donielle Watkins D.R.E.A.M.S. Executive Director said the cheerleaders have participated in competitions, UL events, fundraisers, 5K’s, and other various activities within the community, such as the Kiwanis Club of Lafayette 68th Annual Football Jamboree last year.

The D.R.E.A.M.S. Foundation of Acadiana, a special needs non-profit organization, was incorporated in 2007 to help individuals with special needs, their families and to educate the public of their needs and wants. They now have over 15 activities to keep special needs individuals involved in our community. They also opened the D.R.E.A.M.S. Manufacturing Company to create jobs for individuals with special needs in our community.

The Foundation has offered this wonderful program to the community since September of 2013. If you are interested in registering someone to become a Cheer Warrior, submit an online registration form here.  For more information, email  dreamsfoundationaca@gmail.com.
