A mid-Atlantic real estate company had a banner year, so the boss decided to share the wealth. Edward St. John is chairman and founder of Saint John's properties. He surprised each of his 198 employees with a red envelope at the annual company Christmas party.

Each envelope had a dollar amount written inside. St.John divided $10 million among his employees. The amounts were based on length of service. The average bonus was $50,000. Some employees received as much as $250,000.

“To celebrate the achievement of our goal, we wanted to reward our employees in a big way that would make a significant impact on their lives. I am thankful for every one of our employees, for their hard work and dedication. I couldn’t think of a better way to show it.”   - Edward St. John

A lot of employers around the country could take a lesson from this.
