Remember a few weeks back when everyone in South Louisiana was talking about a robbery in Ville Platte? You don't, let me refresh your memory. In that robbery, a man dressed as a chipmunk robbed a Ville Platte pharmacy. See, you do remember. The suspect had been at large up until this weekend.

That's when Officer Marshal Walters of the Mangham Police Department pulled over a vehicle for a routine traffic stop. It was during that stop the suspect pulled a gun and allegedly shot Officer Walters. Fortunately, Officer Walters is reported to be in stable condition following the attack, and even more fortunate, the alleged trigger man has been arrested.

We are also now getting confirmation from Evangeline Parish Sheriff Charles Guillory that the suspect in that officer's shooting was the prime suspect in the chipmunk robbery.

The man arrested and charged in both crimes is Hermandus Dashanski Semien, 27, of Ville Platte. Semien has been arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder of a police officer, armed robbery, and theft of a motor vehicle.

We extend our wishes for a speedy recovery to Officer Walters who also serves his community as an EMT.
