Carrie Underwood Finally Explains Gruesome 2017 Face Injury
Carrie Underwood has finally opened up about what led to her gruesome 2017 fall, which forced the "Cry Pretty" singer to get more than 40 stitches in her face back in November.
"I was just taking the dogs out to go pee-pee one last time and I just, I tripped," she explained on iHeartRadio's Bobby Bones show on Thursday (April 19) "There was one step, and I went -- I didn't let go of the leashes, priorities! So, that's why my left hand's fine. But I went to catch myself and I just missed a step. If I had fallen anywhere else I would have been perfectly fine, but it was one step that messed everything up."
The incident left Underwood with a broken wrist, as well as multiple lacerations to her face.
"[I fell] around my mouth," she continued, adding that she was "very fortunate" throughout her healing process. "I was lucky that when it happened, everything was kind of shutting down in the music world and we had the holidays and stuff like that. But I was at a point where I didn't know how things were going to end up. I didn't know what was going to go on and didn't know what it was going to heal like."
The interview comes on the heels of Sunday's Academy of Country Music Awards, where Underwood performed publicly for the first time since her fall.
"It's always really nerve-wracking introducing new music, basically in that way, because the song came out just a couple days before the ACMs, so I was super nervous," she shared of the experience. "I felt like I had never been on a stage before."
Three days later, Underwood announced her sixth studio album, Cry Pretty, will arrive September 14.
“At this point in my career, I feel stronger and more creative than ever. I think you can hear that in this new album,” Underwood said of the record in a statement . “It’s emotional, it’s soulful, it’s real, and we also have some fun on there too. I hope everyone loves it as much as I have loved making it.”
