If you’re looking for fried yardbird in the Lafayette area, you'll have no problem finding it with this tasty list.

Today is #NationalFriedChickenDay and we bothered asked our officemates to give us their top choice when it comes to the best fried chicken in Lafayette. From grocery stores and fast food chains, to all the obvious spots, we definitely had a surplus of places to choose from.

If you ever have the urge for fried chicken in Lafayette, this list will do you right.
In no particular order, here are the 10 best spots!

POPEYE'S LOUISIANA KITCHEN

It would be a travesty if Popeye's didn't make the list, and although it is considered "fast food," it was by far the favorite choice amongst anyone we asked. It should be no surprise being that the worldwide franchise was started just a few hours away in New Orleans. It also doesn't hurt that we have the only remaining Popeye's buffet in the country.

LA FONDA

LaFonda is known for serving Mexican cuisine, and the only place you see "fried chicken" on their menu is in a salad—but you can order their bone-in fried chicken off the menu and it's delicious. Also, it wouldn't be a trip to LaFonda without getting a margarita, but don't blame us if your lunch break bleeds into happy hour.

BREAD & CIRCUS PROVISIONS

Bread & Circus is known for their amazing pizza, but don't get it twisted—they can throw down on fried chicken as well. B&C is definitely one of the newer "go to" spots for fried chicken in town, but what they lack in longevity, they definitely make up in flavor.

LANDRY'S CAFE

Landry's Cafe has fried chicken that tastes like TLC. The reason why you get that homemade flavor is because their recipe has been passed down for over three generations and each piece is hand-battered with the love of your favorite Cajun grandmother.

RAISING CANE'S CHICKEN FINGERS

Don't shoot the messenger, but Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers isn't the fastest growing fast food chain in America by accident. They've managed to become extremely successful and from day one they've done it with a limited menu of fried chicken fingers, french fries, toast, coleslaw and their signature Cane's sauce.

CHURCH'S CHICKEN

Another franchise chicken joint makes the list due to their big, juicy pieces of hot fried chicken. Church's Chicken has been around since the early 50s after originating out of San Antonio, TX and due to the response we got from the Church's fans we spoke to, they aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

STEVEN'S FINE FOOD RESTAURANT

loading...

Steven’s Fine Food Restaurant is known for their seafood, but their fried chicken tenders are a hit with the locals in the Downtown/Fightinville area and beyond. Located on the corner of Pierce Street and Cameron, don't blink, because you might miss it.

CHICK-FIL-A

The last of the franchises can't be denied, and if you don't think Chick-Fil-A deserves to make the list, then you obviously haven't seen the line spilling out onto Ambassador Caffery at any given time of the day (except Sunday). Whether it's a party tray of nuggets or their signature chicken sandwich, Chick-Fil-A is always a great treat.

FAT ALBERT'S FRIED CHICKEN

Located on the corner of Moss Street and Willow on the Northside of town is a restaurant that has stood the test of time. From the decor that almost seems untouched from day one, to the microphone they use to call back your order, Fat Albert's fried chicken is your classic fried chicken shack. Not too spicy. Not too bland. Their chicken is just right.

RUSTED ROOSTER

It's another spot where you won't get the traditional bone-in fried chicken, but Rusted Rooster's Le Poulet Sandwich is a taste worth checking out and it ranked among the best fried chicken spots in town. As good as their chicken sandwich may be, the real treat is their chicken biscuit. Literally life-changing.

T-COON'S

The fried chicken at T-Coon's can be enjoyed everyday as it is a staple on their lunch menu. T-Coon's is self-proclaimed "zydeco cooking" so if you're looking for a taste of cajun or creole flavor, this is your place.

POP'S POBOYS

Pop's is known for their poboys, and one of the most popular ones on the menu is their "Hot Hot." Their Nashville style HOT fried chicken is no joke—paired with blue plate mayo, dill pickles and green onion buttermilk ranch—and shouldn't be taken lightly if HOT isn't your thing. Don't worry, for those who can't take the heat you can order the "Not Hot" which is the same tasty buttermilk fried chicken, but with the hot sauce on the side. They've also been known to crank out numerous specialty poboys (see above) with their famous yardbird.

SOCIAL SOUTHERN TABLE & BAR

Social Southern Table & Bar is one of my favorite places to eat, and my favorite thing on their menu is the Smoke Fried Chicken-N-Biscuits. WARNING: You’ll definitely want to share it, and when you taste the local ghost pepper honey you’ll be instantly hooked. Served on top of sweet potato biscuits, I’m not sure if it gets any more southern than this.

HOT FOOD EXPRESS

Hot Food Express has the biggest fried chicken tenders I've ever seen in my life. If you're familiar with the other offerings at Hot Food Express, then you know the spicy seasoning is on point and you know the food is fresh and never frozen. As a bonus you can pair the tenders with seasoned fries or their world famous fried rice.

THE PETROLEUM CLUB

By far, the most surprising spot to make the list is The Petroleum Club. Members of the Petroleum Club rave about the fried chicken (which is available on Mondays if I'm not mistaken). If you ever have the opportunity to dine there, definitely take advantage.

YOUR LOCAL GROCERY/CORNER STORE/GAS STATION

Whether it's Alberston's for their "cheap chicken Monday" special, or your favorite corner store we have to open up the conversation on fried chicken from local grocery store delis and gas stations. Just because you aren't in a traditional dining establishment doesn't mean the fried chicken isn't fire. From the Walmart deli to convenience stores like our local Hit-N-Run, don't sleep.

*BONUS*

We got a few chicken joints that came up several times, but weren’t located in Lafayette proper. Based on the reviews, the following restaurants are well worth the drive if you’re craving fried chicken.

  • TC’s in New Iberia
  • Sonny’s in Church Point
  • Mama’s Fried Chicken in Opelousas
  • Rascal’s in Duson

We’re never mad at more fried chicken places to check out, so if we missed any, please let us know ASAP along with your favorite place to get that tasty fried yardbird!
