Dear Alabama, we love your beaches, we like all of your people except Nick Saban, and we hate to embarrass you but you are wrong. You need to be called out for this totally epic Mardi Gras fail.

I guess like rules in football true facts don't matter to the people who have been sucking the life out of a Lynyrd Skynyrd song for far too long. Yes, we know you celebrate Mardi Gras in Mobile. Good for you. We know you started celebrating in 1703. We also know you weren't the first to celebrate Fat Tuesday in what is now known as the United States.

That honor belongs to Louisiana. According to a story on NOLA.com, the French Canadian explorer Iberville pitched a camp in Plaquemines Parish on Mardi Gras 1699.He even named the camp he established Pont du Mardi Gras so I guess that's  one of those facts that's really hard to overlook.  The exact nature of the celebration is unknown but the explorer did note the date and the day in his journals.

If you can find someone in Alabama that is good at cipherin', also known as mathematics, you will see that 1699 is clearly earlier than 1703. So, Sweet Home, congratulations on being the second in line in the second line. You're right where you need to be, behind Louisiana in a lot more than Mardi Gras.

Alabama residents are quick to counter that Mobile was the first city to hold "organized Mardi Gras celebrations". Okay, maybe you were the first to try and temper the party by getting government involved. If that's what you want to believe then the University of Central Florida football team is the National Champion for this year since they didn't lose any games.

See what happens when you try to bend history with manipulated versions of the truth?
