Three-hundred lucky people had the privilege of hearing a legendary performer in Lafayette last week. Art Garfunkel sang for a capacity crowd at the Acadiana Center for the Arts. We were treated to the hits we've loved for years - 'The Boxer,' 'Scarborough Fair,' Homeward Bound,' 'All I Know,' 'The Sound of Silence' and more. The once-in-a-lifetime special event was a benefit for The Perfect Day Box Foundation. It came about because Art's incredible guitar player Tab Laven is married to the foundation's founder, and wanted to do a benefit for her organization. Annie Kananack Laven, a former UL softball player, created The Perfect Day Box Foundation to "uplift, inspire and give hope to children in need through the arts and imagination." The evening included an auction of artwork from the 'Cajun Picasso' Dusty Reed, Baton Rouge's Jann Harrison, and album cover and Disney artist Jim Warren. Wonderful music, beautiful art, and an incredible venue made for a magical night and a big win for children in hospitals and disadvantaged circumstances.
