What could possibly be wrong on a beautiful day like today? Well, it's the stuff you can't see. It's ozone. Elevated levels of ozone are expected to be present between the hours of 8 AM and 6 PM today.

What is ozone?

For most people, you won't notice a thing. However, those who might be sensitive to elevated ozone levels could experience some issues, mostly minor, during the day today. Those most likely to be affected included people involved in rigorous outside activities. That could mean work or those who choose to exercise during the day.

Others that could be affected include the elderly, children, and those who have respiratory issues such as asthma. However, for most people, the effects of elevated ozone levels, at least like the ones expected today, should not be of too much concern.

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality has issued this Air Quality Alert for persons in Calcasieu, Lafayette, and St. Martin Parishes along the I-10 corridor. A similar alert is in place for persons in Pointe Coupee, Iberville, East Baton Rouge, West Baton Rouge, Ascension, and Livingston Parishes. That alert is active from 7 AM until 7 PM today.
