Someone started a petition on Change.org about naming the new high school to be built in Youngsville - and the name suggestion is quite funny.

Name the new Youngsville high school Schooly McSchoolface - title from the change.org petition

If you remember the news reports from March 2016 about the British agency that took to the internet to ask them to name the newest boat in their fleet, you'll recall that the internet responded (as the internet often does) in a very funny way: the vessel was named "Boaty McBoatface".  (The story was brought to our attention by our British expat friend Aileen Bennett)

The petition to name the new high school in Youngsville "Schooly McSchoolface" was started by Bryan Fuselier on the Change.org website.

As with the naming of the boat, the petition is suggesting a similar name for the school, out of (what seems to be) disgust over the disagreement about the name.  Here is what is written in the body of the petition:

With all of the arguments going around about the new high school's name, we should let the internet decide. The new high school's name should reflect what it is at its core. A school. I can think of no better name that reflects that. - Change.org

I don't have a preference when it comes to the name of the new high school, as I don't have children, nor am I originally from Lafayette Parish.  I do, though, understand the passion behind both arguments (and, now, the Schooly McSchoolface suggestion!).

Youngsville is a great town in which to live.  I have great neighbors, great retail/dining establishments, and it's all within easy access to everything Lafayette has to offer.  I know that the town would be very proud to have a high school with its name.  I also understand the argument on the side of NOT naming the school Youngsville High School; those students who would be coming from the other towns in the area (namely Broussard).  I understand their desire to keep the name municipality-neutral.

In the meantime, I'll enjoy the online pokes and jokes made at each for their inability to come to an amicable conclusion.
