There will be a ceremony and fundraiser honoring Bret Jacob Menard, an injured Afghanistan veteran, on Sunday in New Iberia.

Some members of the Bayou Country Riders have put out an invitation to all motorcycle enthusiasts and other citizens to join in the ceremony to honor and give thanks to Menard for his sacrifices to our country.

People will be meeting at Windmill Tires on Main Street in New Iberia at 9am on Sunday to escort Menard to Bouligny Plaza, where the mayor of New Iberia and Senator Fred Mills will welcome him home.

There will also be a barbeque chicken dinner plate lunch sale at Bourbon Hall, right across from Bouligny Plaza, to help raise money for Menard and his family, who have been by his side since his injury in 2011.

Bret Jacob Menard's Journey:

On September 28,2001, while on a mission in Afghanistan, fighting for our freedom, he sustained extensive life-threatening injuries.  Due to the severity of these injuries, he had extensive rehabilitation in Tampa Fl for the past 2 years. Both parents, who have never left his side, relocated with him, and now they are all coming home.

The goal with this organization, consisting of family and friends, is to be a helping hand with any need that Bret Jacob, or his parents, Bret and Catherine, may have during this process with their only son.
