A woman featured in a St. Landry Parish Crime Stoppers video who was wanted for using a fake $100 bill at the Beau Chene Truck Stop was arrested at a Lafayette hospital.

St. Landry Parish Crime Stoppers spokesman Major Eddie Thibodeaux says he has been talking with Katrina Benoit for two days trying to get her to turn herself in.

Thibodeaux tells KPEL she was sleeping in her car because she could find no one who would give her shelter.

The spokesman says her mother and other family members had been urging Benoit to turn herself in since the Crime Stoppers segment first aired.

She called Major Thibodeaux this morning at around 5 a.m. to tell him she had hurt herself trying to get the cap off of her radiator so she was going to an emergency room in Lafayette.

She told him she was ready to turn herself in, he sent a unit to get her, and in the interim, a doctor called Lafayette Police to turn her in because he recognized her from the Crime Stoppers segment.

On July 26 at 12:26 a.m., a woman can be seen on surveillance video in the Beau Chene Truck Stop. A clerk says the woman put down a fake $100 bill to pay for her gas along with other goods, and then she fled the truck stop.

Benoit was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.
