The Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus wants to see Louisiana increase the number of women serving in public offices and on Louisiana boards and commissions and they discovered some interesting statistics to make their point. Even though Louisiana women comprise 51% of Louisiana's population, the women legislators found only 25% of elected public service positions in Louisiana were held by women during a snapshot review of elected offices prior to the Fall 2012 elections. These numbers were even worse in the Louisiana Legislature with women holding a little more than 11% of the legislative seats.  As it relates to Louisiana public boards and commissions, women held 27% of seats compared to 73% held by men.
