The Fourth of July is just a little over a week away. Here's what you should know before you light up those fireworks to celebrate.

The municipal code of Lafayette Parish states that fireworks may only be set off in unincorporated areas of the parish and specifies age requirements for buying, using, and dates and times of use.

Fireworks cannot be sold to or purchased by anyone under 18 years of age.

No person under 18 can use, handle, set off, shoot, or have in their possession any fireworks with adult supervision. (an adult is anyone 18 years of age or older)

Fireworks may be sold at retail from noon on June 25 through 10 p.m. on July 5.

Fireworks may be used from June 25 to July 5.

Additional hours of use will be allowed from 10 p.m. on July 4 to 1 a.m. on July 5.
