Kris Kristofferson, Jimi Hendrix, and Elvis Presley all gained worldwide fame through their music. Kristofferson & Presley additionally made successful movies. There's one other thing the three have in common.

They all served in the United States Army. Elvis was already famous when he was drafted in 1958. After basic training, he served in the 3rd Armored division, stationed in Germany. Hendrix enlisted in the army at age 19, and served as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne. An injury resulted in an honorable discharge after a year of service. Kristofferson's story is perhaps the most interesting. He joined the army, where he served in the infantry, completed Ranger School, became a Helicopter pilot, and taught English Literature at West Point. His experience as a pilot would lead him here to Lafayette, where he found employment at PHI. Here's a little something for your 4th of July weekend...
