Weekend Box Office: ‘Thor’ Holds Top Spot; ‘Bridesmaids’ Debuts Strong
I haven't seen this movie yet, but Shannon went over the weekend with some of her co-workers. She said that when Chris Hemsworth walked into the scene without his shirt, ALL of the women in the theatre gasped. Maybe that's why 'Thor' continued to show its strength at the box office this weekend.
The Marvel superhero flick, starring breakout hunk Chris Hemsworth, took in an estimated $34.5 million, bringing its 10-day total to $119.3 million. Overall, 'Thor' was down 48 percent from last weekend, according to EW.com.
Coming in second place was 'Bridesmaids,' with a strong $24.5 million. The all-female comedy, starring 'Saturday Night Live's' Kristen Wiig, exceeded expectations thanks to strong reviews from critics and positive word of mouth.
In third place was 'Fast Five,' down another 40 percent, with $19.5 million. In three weekends at the box office, 'Fast Five' has grossed an impressive $167.8 million.
Rounding out the top five were 'Priest,' which debuted with an underwhelming $14.5 million, and the animated comedy 'Rio,' with 8.0 million.
