How do I know that flights are delayed out of Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW)?  Because I am here, stuck in this muck.

All I wanted was a relaxing weekend in Pittsburgh with my girlfriend.  Or an exciting weekend in Pittsburgh with my girlfriend.  I didn't want to be delayed because of mechanical issues or weather.

Don't get me wrong: other than American Airlines not getting me to my destination on time, the weekend went well.  I left Lafayette on Wednesday, hoping to be in Pittsburgh by noon, but a broken airplane delayed my journey by 6 hours.  NBD, right?  Well, that's 6 hours less in Pittsburgh, which put a damper on my plans.

And then, Pittsburgh.  Fall colors on the leaves, cooler temperatures, great concerts, great food, quality time with my girl.  Great trip.

And then, DFW happened, again.  This time, due to weather delays.  First, my 11:05 flight to Lafayette was delayed a few times, then it got cancelled.  When I re-booked, I was re-booked on stand-by for a 1:40 flight into Lafayette.  Waited at that gate for 45 minutes, only to be told that this flight, too, is cancelled.  So now, I am waiting for a 4:20 flight to Baton Rouge (but wait, JayCee; I thought you said you were trying to fly into Lafayette?).  I was trying to fly into Lafayette because, well, that's where my Jeep is.  I was informed that all the Lafayette flights are booked up solid for the rest of the day.

Oh, did I mention that I was supposed to be at work by 3?  Remember that radio gig that I do from 3-7 each weekday?  Well, thanks to Mother Nature, you'll be hearing Chris Reynolds in my slot today.

I must say that each of the American Airlines employees that I dealt with today were very professional and polite, apologetic and empathetic (until I asked one if I could borrow her car for a quick trip to Lafayette.  She made quick eye contact with the security officer, so I retracted my request).

I guess that American Airlines is just trying to be as safe as possible.  I not only understand, but respect that effort.

Next, we'll talk about Ebola.
