When I was young, I was never shy about meeting the parents of a girl in whom I was interested. That's apparently still far more important than many young men seem to realize. Our communications technology has evolved by a geometric progression in recent years, but our skills are eroding. If you can't at least call, or better yet, ask for a date face to face, expect to be turned down. The Associated Press reports, more than 60% of women under age 30 say their mother's opinion is very important in choosing a potential Valentine. Forty percent say they'd dump a guy their mother doesn't like, and only about five percent say Mom's opinion doesn't matter. Dad's opinion is still pretty important, too. More than half say they want their father to size a guy up. If you're sincerely interested, a text asking "wanna hang out?' won't cut it.
